RCMP in Iqaluit say a body was found inside a shack that burned down yesterday.

Flames reached high into the air at about 9 p.m. in an area behind the elders' residence.

"Members were en routeto an unrelated call when they noticed a shack on fire," saysConstable Malcolm McNeil. "They were unable to enter the shack at the time and later on they discovered a body inside."

McNeil says policeare holding the area and will try to confirm the identity and gender of the person who died now that it's light outside.

"There's no indication yet as to what might have happened and it's still quite early in the investigation."

Police are working with the coroner's office and the Fire Marshal.
