Trials ordered in home invasion

A St. John's court ordered trials Monday for two men accused of taking part in a home invasion in St. John's almost two years ago.

Judge David Orr ruled there was enough evidence to try both Gordon Bishop, 26, and Rene Paul Seers, 29.

Bishop and Seers face charges that include robbery with violence, break and enter, aggravated assault and personal confinement.

They are accused of committing a robbery at Mackenzie Street in the east end of St. John's in April 2009.

One man has already been convicted and sentenced in the same incident. Dean Lewis was sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison for the home invasion, even though he was not physically there. The court accepted that Lewis had shown the house to three other men after overhearing a prison inmate reveal that a relative had cash.

A fourth man wanted for the crime, Steven Clowe, remains at large.
