The Newfoundland and Labrador government is confirming that it has received a report on psychiatric care at its correctional facilities.

Justice Minister Felix Collins ordered the external peer review in 2011, and received the report Wednesday.

It was triggered by criticism of psychiatrist David Craig and his practice of taking inmates off prescribed medication.

Department of Justice officials say Collins will comment after he's reviewed the report.

But NDP critic Gerry Rogers fears more delays.

"This problem has been dragging on for a long time," Rogers said. "I think that the government has been absolutely dragging its feet on this issue."

She noted that problem was formally identified four years ago, byan independent reviewtitled Decades of Darkness: Moving Towards the Light.

Rogers says she wants to hear from Collins within 30 days.
