Accused murderer Raymond Stacey sentenced for theft

Raymond Stacey, who stands accused in the second-degree murder of Clifford Comerford, has pleaded guilty to theft in an unrelated matter.

Raymond Stacey, who isaccused of second-degree murder in the stabbingdeath of Clifford Comerford, has beensentenced for anunrelated crime.

Stacey pleaded guilty Thursdayand was sentenced to 90 days in jailin connection to a theft from Frontline Action Shop in Mount Pearl in July 2014.

A paintball gun, CO2 canister andrelated paintball equipment were stolen in the incident,with a total value of just over $500.

Stacey was caught on surveillance footage committing the theft and was later recognized by one of the shop's employees.

Stacey, 24,was ordered to stand trial for the alleged murder of his co-worker Comerford earlier this month after a preliminary inquiry determined there was enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

The incident occurred in a shuttle van in Mount Pearl in January.

The van was taking the two men to a barn near Paddy's Pond where they both worked as chicken catchers. Comerford was stabbed in the van and later died in hospital.

Stacey is still waiting to enter a plea in Supreme Court in St. John's on the murder charge.
