So begins Art Scammell's famous ode to that most magical fishery, "The Squid Jiggin' Ground". This archival episode of Land & Sea takes us there.

In 1979, squid was a booming business in outport Newfoundland. But catching the mysterious creatures is a messy business, and as the song forewarns, "if you get cranky without your silk hanky, you'd better steer clear of the squid jiggin' ground!"
