Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says operations are "back to normal" after smoke was seen coming from the company's Holyrood generating station Monday morning.

Photos shared on social media showed black smoke rising from the station, which contributes energy to the island's power supply.

The company said the smoke was caused by a temporary airflow issue on Unit 1, and crews are investigating the cause.

A spokesperson for Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro told CBC News that "opacity levels" are also back to normal.
