Small Labrador community stranded

People in Mud Lake, N.L.,are looking for some government help now that they've been cut off from the rest of Labrador for more than a week.

There's too much ice on the Churchill River for boats, but not enough for snowmobiles.

Resident Dave Raeburn says people in the central Labrador communityneedgroceries and medical checkups. They've also been waiting days for their mail, including Christmas cards and gifts.

The community of about 60 peopleis hoping the provincial government will bring in a helicopter to carry people back and forth to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, a 15 minute round trip by air.

Another town on the coast of Labrador, Norman Bay, is also cut off. The 50 people there are looking for helicopter service as well.
