It's now looking more likely that Fermeuse native Ryane Clowe's National Hockey League career may be over.

Clowe, who plays for the New Jersey Devils, is still experiencing symptoms from his latest concussion, which he sustained Nov. 6 during a gameagainst the St. Louis Blues.

That's according to media reports emerging Mondayfrom the team's final get-together after failing to make the playoffs this season.

Team president and general manager Lou Lamoriello is quoted as saying "all indications are it will be very difficult for him to play the game again."

Tom Gulitti, who covers the Devils for The Record, a newspaper in northern New Jersey, said Clowe has admitted he is considering retirement, even if doctors clear him to play at some point in the future.

"Clowe said he would have played this season if he had been cleared," Gulitti wrote in a blog called Fire and Ice.

Cloweis a rugged left winger who plays a very physical style of game. He has not been medically cleared to play since early November.Clowe listed headaches, neck pain, fatigue and mood swings among the symptoms he is still experiencing.

Clowe, 32, spent eight seasons with the San Jose Sharks and part of a season with the New York Rangersbefore signing a five-year, $24.25 million contract with the Devils prior to the 2013-14 season.

Lamoriello would not discuss if that contract is covered by insurance, but Rich Chere, a reporter for the Star-Ledger, tweeted Monday that "It sounds as if Devils and Clowe are waiting for doctors to say he can never play again, so that insurance will cover remainder of contract."

He played just 13 games this season, registering a goal and three assists.

Clowe'scareer has been derailed by a series of concussions over the past two seasons.
