Ryan Janes' big fight: 'My mom won't watch it until afterwards'

When Ryan Janesmakes his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut later this month, his mother won't be watching.

"My mom won't watch it until afterwards, just to make sure I won and I didn't get hurt," Janes, 34,told Here and Nowon Friday.

Janes who was born in Grand Falls-Windsor and grew up in the St. John's area didn't take up mixed-martial arts until he was 25.

Now he trains in British Columbia andtakes his 8-1 record into UFC for the first time Aug. 27 against a fellow Atlantic Canadian: Adam Hunter of New Brunswick.
