The Town of Paradise has lifted an 18-day state of emergency now that a problematic sewage pump station is back online.

Lift Station 10, a sewage stationthat moves sewage from a lower elevationto a higher one, started having issueson Nov. 1.

Residents were asked to minimize wastewater usage, and the intersection of Topsail Road and St. Thomas Line was closed as a result of the work.

A new pump had to come from out of province for a fix, which the town said arrived on Sunday.

In a news release issued Friday, the town said the system bypass at Lift Station 10 is operational and stable, and will continued to be monitored. Crews are now working on repairing the facility, the release said.

The town has dealt with sewage issues around the pump station before, when a failure in the system caused raw sewage to flood the lawn and driveway of a nearby resident in August 2019.

Construction of a new station to replace the lift station started in January 2023, and is expected to be completed next year.
