Pair identified in fatal N.L. shootings

RCMP are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at a medical clinic on Newfoundland's Port au Port Peninsula.

RCMP said a woman, 49,wasshot dead Monday at the clinicinDe Grauand a man, 54,wastaken tohospital in nearby Stephenville where he later died.

Relatives haveidentified them as Stephanie Chaisson and her estranged husband, Luke Chaisson.

Sources told CBC News that Chaisson walked into the clinic with two guns and fired at Chaisson, who wasthe office receptionist.It's believed hethen shot himself.

"What I heard is that he shot her twice, then shot himself in the chest," said Leigh Costard, whosaid Luke Chaisson was his cousin.

The couple was married but had separated, Costard told CBC News, and she was living in Stephenville with their daughter. He said the relationship was rocky, and that she had a peace bond against him.

"From what I hear, he's made a lot of threats against her and stuff in the pastnot really a big surprise," Costard said.

Still, he said Mondays shooting has shocked people in the small community. The medical clinic was closed while the RCMP continued their investigation.
