No evidence of harm in radiology review

A health authority in central Newfoundland revealed Wednesday that it does not yet know whether any patients were harmed by mistakes made by a suspended radiologist.

Central Health, which suspended Gander-based radiologist John Ozoh last month, released new figures that show the number of mistaken test results handled by Ozoh now stands at 128.

Of those, 51 have been reviewed and sent back to family physicians, but Central Health has thus far not been informed of any significant problems.

Chief executive officer Karen McGrath told reporters that physicians have said there is no cause for concern.

"At this particular point we have no evidence of harm," McGrath said.

A review of Ozoh's work began in June after complaints were received about his work. Ozoh was suspended in September, though, because he was not complying with a quality assurance review.

So far, Central Health has received about a half dozen requests for retesting.

The review of Ozoh's work is expected to be completed later this month.
