Self-registration kiosks piloted at Health Sciences Centre

You can do it at the grocery store, and the airport. Now, you can also check yourself in at the province's biggest hospital.

New self-registration kiosks have been opened at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's.

Eastern Health announced Tuesday that the kiosks are located on the Yellow Brick Road a marked pathway through the hospital's main corridorsand will be open weekdays from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The kiosks are part of a three-month pilot project, and will possibly be expanded to other health centres in the future.

During the pilot project, the health authority said it will have a staff person on site to answer questions and clients will still have the option of registering with a clerk at Central Registration.

David Diamond, Eastern Health president and CEO, said in a statement that the goal is to make check-in faster for patients.

"Our research indicates that these new kiosks will help improve the registration process by decreasing wait times thereby ensuring that patients arrive at their appointments on time," he said.

"The goal is to enhance patient satisfaction with the registration process at the Health Sciences Centre."

The kiosks will allow patients to register for scheduled appointments, verify information, receive and print the location of their appointment and make a donation to the Health Care Foundation.

The kiosks were purchased using funding from the Health Care Foundation.
