Jungle Jim's visit puts Kenny Green behind bars again

A trip to a Jungle Jim's restaurant in St. John's has proven to be costly for Kenny Green, who on Tuesday was sent back to jail after a court determined he had violated the terms of his bail.

Justice William Goodridge ruled that the public could no longer trust Green, 35, who was arrested on Saturday, just one day after he was granted bail while he awaits trial on a second-degree murder charge.

On Saturday evening, Green took his girlfriend and daughter to a Jungle Jim's restaurant, where police took him into custody.

Green said he did not think that his bail conditions, which ordered him to stay away from establishments with a liquor licence, would include such a restaurant.

Green had spoken witha police officer on Saturday morning about whether it would be appropriate to go to Jungle Jim's.

Goodridgesaid this showed thatGreen had contemplated the matter, and that he should have known better.

Goodridgesaid Green had treated this as a "cat and mouse game," and that he knew that police were watching him.

Outside provincial court on Monday, Green remarked that the incident was "all a misunderstanding."

The case of whether he revoked bail was sent toSupreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The decision means that Green may stay in custody until the start of his trial.

Green has pleaded not guilty to a charge of killing Joey Whalen at a house on Tessier Place. Whalen died in hospital after he was found brutally beaten in what neighbours described as a drug house.
