3 people face 2nd-degree murder charges after man found dead on Golf Avenue

Three of the four people who were taken into custody in relation to a homicide on Golf Avenue in St. John's a day ago appeared in court Thursday.

Shelter in place order was in effect, as police had ordered suspects out of a house Wednesday

Three of the four people who were taken into custody in relation to a homicide on Golf Avenue in St. John's a day ago have been charged with second-degree murder.

Bradley Morrell, 41, Jason Wells, 50 and Veronica Whalen, 36, appeared in provincial courtThursday morning. The fourth person a woman has been released pending further investigation.

Morrell, Wells and Whalen are expected back in court on Aug. 20. Wells also faces a chargeof possession of stolen goods, related to a June 2023 incidentand a charge of failure to appear in court from September 2023.

The charges have not yet been proven in court.

Thursday's court appearance follows an incident on Golf Avenue on Wednesday.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a manwas killed outside a house on Golf Avenue ina targeted attack. After ashort standoff atthe house, with police surrounding the propertywith guns drawn, four people exited with their hands up and were taken into custody.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, an RNC spokesperson said officers believe the victim and suspects were known to each other.
