A school in Conception Bay South will remain open to students this week, even though wind caused damage to a section of building'sroof onMonday.

The section of roof atFrank Roberts Junior High was blown off in Monday's high wind gusts, and a hole was discovered above the school'sgymnasium.

Ken Morrissey, with the Newfoundland and LabradorEnglish School District (NLESD), told CBC News students stayed inside the school on Monday until an assessment on the roof was completed.

The school board decided to close the gymnasium, Morrissey said, but determined students could continue to attend classes sincethe rest of the roof was intact.

While initially the hole in the roof was thought to be a direct result of the wind, Morrissey later said it was found to be a drain.

"It was a roof drain in the gymnasium ceiling and not a hole caused by wind," he said."I'm told all debris has been cleaned from the site as well."

NLESD saidithas engaged a professional roofer and will work with the company to repair the roof as quickly as is practical.
