It's difficult to to paint a picture of the state of daycare in Newfoundland and Labrador because some daycares are licensed and regulated, while many otheres are not. Here are some numbers we've found.

It's difficult to to paint a picture of the state of child care in Newfoundland and Labrador becausesome daycares are licensed and regulated, while many others are not. We've added quotes from mothers who talked to CBC Newswhile we were researching this story.

Here are some numbers we've found.

Newfoundland and Labrador government

As of June 30, 2014, the total number of regulated child care spaces in Newfoundland and Labrador was 7,815 representing a 30 per centincrease since 2007, according to the Newfoundland and Labrador government'sChild Care Fact Sheet.

  • 200 Child Care Centres with 7,045 spaces
  • 135 Family Child Care Homes with 770 spaces

From April 1, 2014 to June 30, 2014, a total of 2,330 children received subsidies for regulated child care spaces located in 225 child care centres and family child care homes.
