MUN officials not talking after cybersecurity breach delays return to classes at Grenfell campus

Memorial University says the start of in-person classes for the winter semesterat its Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook hasbeen delayed due to an ongoing cybersecurity incident.

Memorial University says the start of in-person classes for the winter semesterat its Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook hasbeen delayed due to an ongoing cybersecurity incident.

Classes were set to begin Thursdaybut have been rescheduled for Monday. The delay includes classes at Western Regional School of Nursing, with theexception offourth-year students in Course 4516, which will begin as scheduled.

Online courses are also continuing as normal.

The university says ITservices at the Marine Institute have also been temporarily shut down, as a precaution.

MUN spokesperson Chad Pelley declined a CBC News interview request Tuesday, saying the university will "endeavour to make a spokesperson available in the coming days."

"While the university understands there are questions at this time, Memorial does not have further information or updates to share today," wrote Pelley in an email to CBC News.

In a statement released Sunday, the university said security protocols were put in place to isolate the affected systems but gave few other details on the nature of the incident. The university said there is no indication at this stage that IT services or data on other campuses have been affected.

MUN said an investigation was launched and law enforcement has been notified. The university said itwill directly notify any individuals whose information may have been affected by the incident.
