Indeed, it's the poor quality of five regional highways in the province that landed them in a list of 10 "worst roads," in a vote conducted by the Canadian Auto Association.

Topping the entire list was the stretch of Route 360 heading to Harbour Breton, on Newfoundland's south coast.

In second: Route 238, around the area of Elliston on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula.

Route 360 made a second appearance, placing fifth for the stretch around Milltown in central Newfoundland.

Also included on the list: were Route 434, aroundConche on the Northern Peninsula, and the western and central portions of the Trans-Labrador Highway.

"It's the top five concerns among Canadianswe love to talkabout our roads, just like we like to talk about the weather and hockey," said Gary Howard, a vice-president of the CAA.

"The condition of roads is important to us. We know this from our research, year after year."

Howard said the annual survey allows motorists a chance to identify their least favourite roads, and also provides the CAA with evidence that it can present to governments.

The CAA said 3,199 votes were cast in this year's survey.
