A snowmobile racer in the Cain's Quest race in Labrador has been airlifted for treatment after a collision Tuesday morning.

Lloyd Rex Rich was riding his snowmobile when he collided with a motor vehicle on Dump Road near Cartwright around 9 a.m.

Rich was taken to a clinic in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. His injuries are not life threatening.

We are out for 2014, said John Nui, Richs teammate in the race. Lloyds okay though. He still smiles every now and then."

RCMP near Cartwright responded to the crash. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Cain's Quest is an endurance snowmobile race in Labrador the longest of its kind in the world.

This year, 29 teams are racing a 3,000 kilometre track for the $100,000 prize that goes to the winner.

Because of the nature of the race, usually not all teams finish the event.
