Bishop's Falls fighting to become Hockeyville

A small central Newfoundland townis working phone lines around the clock this week in its efforts to win a nation-wide contest celebrating hockey.

Bishop's Falls one of five Canadian communities in the running to win Kraft Hockeyville 2010 registered more than 300,000 votes last week .

The Bishop's Falls's fire hall has become the designated Hockeyville call centre with volunteers staffing 12 phone lines.

"People have been lining up, trying to get on the phones. We've actually had to say to people, 'Look at the schedule and see when you can fit yourself in,' because they've just been steady go. It's been wonderful," volunteer Carmel Rowsell said.

Rowsell said that until the deadline Hockeyville is her life.

"I come here on every lunch hour and I vote constantly," she said. "When I get off work. I am here voting. You know, we really want the big prize. I'm going to say I've put in about 6,000 to 7,000 votes, maybe more."

The other four communities stillin the competition are Cranbrook, B.C., Dundas, ON, Stanstead, QC, and Lawrencetown, N.S.

Voting closes Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET. The winner will be announced live on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada on April 3, 2010.

Regardless of the results, Bishop's Falls has already won $25,000 and a visit from CBC's Hockey Night in Canada crew.

The community that wins receives:

• $100,000 from Kraft Canada dedicated to upgrade the winning community's arena.
• A NHL pre-season game hosted inthe winning community'sarena and broadcasted by CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
