Exit Realty on the Rock owner Anne Squires elects trial by judge, jury

Anne Squires, the owner of Exit Realty on the Rock, elected to be tried by judge and jury on charges of theft and fraud Thursday.

Anne Squires, the owner of Exit Realty on the Rock, elected Thursday to be tried by judge and jury on charges of theft and fraud.

Squires didn't appear in courtbut was instead represented by lawyer Randy Piercey.

Squires was charged with theft over $5,000, fraud over $5,000, uttering a forged document and breach of trust, following what police called a "lengthy and thorough investigation into Squires and her business dealings."

Exit Realty on the Rock had its licence suspended by the province after court documents revealed owner Anne Squire was under criminal investigation. (CBC)

In a court documentobtainedbyCBC News in February2016, police investigators wrote they believed Squires falsified home purchase and sales agreements.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary began its investigationback in January2016.

Squires has a preliminary hearing set for November 14in provincial court.If there is enough evidence to send the case to trial, it will take place in Supreme Court.
