"The travelling public are urged to prepare for potentially difficult driving conditions in areas of freezing rain," the national weather service said in the statement.

Felicia Murphy, spokesperson forSNC Lavalin, the company that maintains the Trans-Canada Highway between Longs Creek and the Quebec border and Route 95 from Woodstock to Houlton, Maine, said highways remain snow-packed in the north.

"Our roads from the Quebec border down to Grand Falls, a little bit further, are snow-covered and slushy. From Grand Falls to Centreville they're snow-covered and slushy."

Murphy said that as drivers get closer to Woodstock, the highway is partially snow-covered.

"So the precipitation is getting less and less as you are coming south."

Murphy said road crews are out salting and scraping the roads.

Murphy recommended drivers go slow, give themselves extra time and keep extra space between themselves and other vehicles.
