Shelley Chase, Sackville singer, celebrating Robbie Burns day in Scotland

New Brunswick entertainer Shelley Chase is experiencing RobbieBurns Day in Glasgow Scotland, where she will join Scots from around the world as they raise aglass to the beloved poet.

Chase is part of an international delegationin Glasgow scoutingScottish bands to bring to Canadian festivals this summer.

"Especially in the Maritimes, it's the music of our history, it's part of our founding fathers from Atlantic Canada andwhen we hear that fiddle in New Brunswick our feet start stomping," Chase said in an interview on Information Morning MonctonMonday.

Chase saidshe feels lucky and a bit overwhelmed to be in Glasgow today.

"I'm in Scotland onRobbieBurns Day that's a littlesurrealand when you'retromping around on cobblestones and looking at all of thisbeautiful architecture you certainly get a sense of place and the cultureI'm really lucky to be here."

Chase visited GeorgeSquare on Mondaymorning in Glasgow to see the statue of Burns, which was covered in wreaths and tartan.

"We're definitely heading out to have a few drams of whiskey and I've got some Scottish colleagues that are taking me to a whiskey bar around supper time," Chase said of how she will celebrate today.

"It is a big dealit's their national poet. His poetry has of course spread far and wide, and we sing Auld LangSyne at new yearswhether you'reScottish realize you are quoting RobbieBurns."

Chase is looking forward to returning to New Brunswick in February, where she will be part of the cast ofthe production of The Sound of Music at the Capital Theatre in Moncton.
