Sketch of suspect released

Codiac Regional RCMP have released a sketch of a suspect ina bank inspector scam that occurred in Moncton last month.

On Sept. 17, a man, posing as a bank inspector, convinced a woman to make large withdrawals from her account and to turn them over to him, Const. Damien Thriault stated in a release.

The man claimed he was investigating a case of fund embezzlement by an employee and that the woman's help was crucial in the case, said Thriault.

The man asked the woman not to discuss the matter with anyone at the bank because they might be involved, he said.

"This type of scam has been reported in our area in the past and is mostly targeting elderly people," said Thriault.

Police are encouraging people to talk to their grandparents or elderly parents to ensure they don't become victims, he said.

The suspect in the latest case is described as being in his 50s, about five feet, nine inches tall and 185 pounds.

He has grey hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing a baseball cap, a blue collared dress shirt and dark dress pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP at 506-857-2400, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
