Prostitution charges against 6 'Johns' dropped in Moncton

Prostitution-related charges against six men in Moncton were dropped on Monday in light of the recent Supreme Court decision.

Prostitution-related charges against six men in Monctonwere droppedon Monday,in light of the recent Supreme Court decision.

Canadas top judges unanimously struck down the prostitutionlaws on Dec. 20and gave Parliament a year to create new laws, if it chooses to.

The six men were arrested on Nov. 14, when Codiac Regional RCMP conducted a sweep in the Victoria Park and Dufferin Street areas,as part of an ongoing effort to curbsex trade activities in Greater Moncton.

They were all given promises to appear in Moncton provincial court on Monday. But the Crown withdrew the charges against them.

The men ranged in age from 38 to 78, police said.

Five of the men are from New Brunswick and one isfrom Nova Scotia.
