New Riverview school hit by construction delays

A new Riverview school will not be open in September as planned because of construction delays, according to the Anglophone East School District.

Riverview East School was supposed to open in September

A new Riverview school will not be open in September as planned because of construction delays, according to the Anglophone East School District.

The Riverview East School was supposed to replace the aging Gunningsville and Lower Coverdale schools and be open in September.

But the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure informed the school district that "due to delays in construction, work will continue beyond the beginning of September."

A new opening date has not been set by the provincial government.

"The school district is communicating directly with parents to keep them informed. While students will begin the school year in an alternate location, their assigned classes will remain the same when they transfer to the Riverview East School," according to a statement from the school district.

The 21.6-million school will have classes from kindergarten to Grade 8.

The provincial government held a sod-turning event in August 2012.
