New Brunswick musicians earn 28 ECMA nominations

New Brunswick musicians are up for 28 nominations in this year's East Coast Music Awards that are being held in St. John's.

Provincial artists have been recognized in many genres, including high-profile categories, such as album of the year.

Olympic Symphonium's Chance to Fate is among the bands vying for the best album award.

Other major nominations went to David Myles for Fan's Choice entertainer of the year and Radio Radio for Fan's Choice video of the year.

The annual music event starts on Thursday and is wrapping upon Sunday.

The main awards gala happens on Thursday, although only the major trophies will be part of that concert and broadcast.Other awards will be presented at various showcase concerts over the next three days.

Two of the five nods for aboriginal recording of the year belong to First Nations in the province with City Natives nominated for Red City and Gary Sappier Blue Band for Who Ya Foolin'.

Out of St. Andrews, the Kendra Gale Blues Band is in the running for blues recording for Carousel.

Mike Biggar has a country recording of the year nomination for Feels Like Now.

Bruno Jacques Pelletier for Visualiser pour seraliser and Scotty and the Stars for Dancing like a dinosaur have been nominated for children's recording of the year.

The province dominates the classical recording category with three of five nominations: Roger Lord's Chinese Piano Treasures, Music at the Time of Louisbourg by La Tour Baroque Duo and Trio Arkaede for Tour de France.

The province makes a mark in electronic music with Vogue Dots honoured for Toska.

Folk recording of the year sees another two nominees, Cedric Vieno for Maquiller l'ne and Les Hay Babies' Mon Homesick Heart.

Those same two albums are up for best francophone recording, as well as two more, Francelle Maria with La p'tite Acadienne and Les Hotesses d'Hilaire for Party de ruisseau.

In the gospel recording category, Brunswick Street Baptist Church of Fredericton is in the running with the 200 Christmases release.

Group recording sees Radio Radio nominated for Ej Feel Zoo.

Moncton's Les Paiens grabbed a nomination in the jazz recording field for Carte blanche.

There are two groups from the province battling for best loud recording, Hero's Last Rite with The Mirror's Face and Zaum for Oracles.

Rap/Hip-Hop sees repeat nominations for City Natives forRed City and Radio Radio for Ej Feel Zoo.

And a couple of southern New Brunswick bands get their first nominations in 2015, with Tomato Tomato up for roots/traditional group recording for So It Goes and Earthbound Trio in the world recording category with Lettuce Turnip the Beet.
