Body of missing woman found in St. John River

Fredericton police found the body of a 24-year-old woman in the St. John River Sunday morning, after a car crash near the water on St. Anne's Point Drive two days earlier.

Fredericton police found the body of a 24-year-old womanin the St. John River Sunday morning, after a car crash near the water on St. Anne's Point Drive two days earlier.

Marc-Andr Doucet,a 26 year old manfromFredericton, has been charged with impaired driving in connection with the single vehicle collision.

In a news release, police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which happened just metres from the river.

The driver and passenger, who were the only people in the vehicle,were not wearing seatbelts, according to police.

Police confirm the deceased womanwas in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Fredericton police have not released the victim's identity, other than to say she is from Fredericton.

But family members and friends held a candle light vigil Saturday night near the crash sitefor Jennifer Brewer.

The crash sent one man to Dr. EverettChalmersHospital. He was treated for minor injuries and released.

The 26-year-old manwill appear in court Mondayto answer to charges.

A Fredericton policeunderwaterdive team had been searching the St. John river since Friday for the woman.

The investigation is ongoing.
