Genevive Lalonde takes bronze in 3000 metre steeplechase

Genevive Lalonde finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Genevive Lalonde finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

The Moncton native raced with a time of 9:53:03on Friday night.

She was close with Tatiana Da Silva of Brazil for the third place spot, when Da Silva tripped over a steeple.

American Ashley Higginson won gold with a time of9:48.12andShalaya Kipp, also from the U.S. took silver in9:49.96.

Lalonde is having a strong season so far.She has qualified for the world championships, which will take place in Beijing this fall.

Lalonde hopes to race as a member ofteam Canada at the 2016 SummerOlympics in Rio.
