Fredericton police seize $178K worth of drugs, arrest 16-year-old

A 16-year-old Fredericton youth is facing six charges in connection with a drug bust that resulted in drugs with an estimated street value of $178,000 being seized by Fredericton police.

A 16-year-old Fredericton youth is facing six charges in connection with a drug bust that resulted in drugs with an estimated street value of $178,000 being seized by Fredericton police.

Weapons and $3,600 cash were also seized.

Investigators seized 986 grams of methamphetamine, 889 grams of cocaine, and two firearms, one of which was loaded.

The seizure happened Thursday after the Fredericton Fire Department and the provincial electrical inspector were carrying out a safety check ata multi-unit residential complex on the city's northside.

They encountered a fortified building and requested assistance from the Fredericton Police Force. The police obtained a search warrant for the property.

The youth appeared in court Friday but cannot be identified under the provisions of the federal Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Unlawful possession of firearms
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device.
