Fire chief testifies that 3 fires set at apartment where Wylie found dead

The Court of Queen's Bench heard testimony Tuesday that there was more than one fire set in the apartment where Baylee Wylie was found dead.

Moncton fire chief Charles LeBlanc testified in the murder trial of Devin Morningstar that three fires were set in the apartment, two on the upper level and one on the main level.

LeBlanc testified that he arrived on scene at 12:55 a.m. on Dec. 17 and noticed a basement and first story window broken. It was upon entering the dwelling that he discovered there were three fires.

"The fact that there's three fires tells me there's something criminal," says LeBlanc.

LeBlanc testified the fire on the main level was set near the box spring that Wylie's body was found under.

RCMP Cpl. Margot Estabrooks testified Monday that a fishing lure and fishing line were found in area of the toes on Wylie's left foot.

The trial also heard Tuesday that Wylie's blood and that of another male were found on Morningstar's sweatpants.

Tyler Noel and Marissa Shephardare also charged with first-degree murder in Wylie's death. They are to stand trial separately.

During the first week of the trial, the jury heard Wyliesuffered as many as 200 injuries and he was dead before the firein the triplex unit on Sumac Street where his body was found on Dec. 17 after the fire was put out.
