Dennis Oland's defence team rested its case on Thursday morning without calling any more witnesses in the second-degree murder trial andsetting the stage for the closing arguments later this month.

The trial will be taking an 11-day break and closing arguments will start on Dec. 14.

Lawyers said they needed the break in order to prepare their final statements.

The judge also told the jury they will be sequestered once given the charge, which could take two days.

"With the holiday season coming, if you have any decorating to do, or Christmas baking, or other arrangements, get all of that done," Court of Queen's BenchJusticeJohn Walsh said.

OlandsaidWednesday there are inconsistencies between his testimonyat his second-degreemurder trial and what he told Saint John police in 2011.

Olandsaid he was "nervous, in shock and sad"at the time of the statement in 2011,having just learned of his father's death.

On Wednesday, when asked how he felt about his father's affairhe said he couldn't say heliked it, but he never broached the subjectwith his father. "I didn't want anything to do with it."

The accused also testified that he "absolutely" loved his father andfought back tears when he said he misses him.

They had an "old school" father-son relationship, he said, describing it asa bit formal and "father-know-best."
