The head of the Saint John Police Force's forensic unit testified Thursday at Dennis Oland's murder trial about the difficulties he faced in trying to preserve the bloody crime scene. His testimony is expected to continue Friday morning.

Dennis Oland's second-degree murder trial is continuing on Fridayin Saint John as a forensic investigator describes preserving the bloody crime scene.

Sgt. Mark Smith, the head of the Saint John Police Force's forensic unit,testified on Thursdayabout the difficulties he faced in trying to preserve the crime scene.

Smith led the jury through some of the 119 photos of the crime scene submitted into evidence.

Oland,47, is charged with killing his father, prominent Saint John business man RichardOland.

Richardsuffered40 sharp and blunt force injuries to his head and neck and six defensive wounds to his hands. No weapon was ever found.
