Another N.B. high school shuts down

L'cole Roland-Ppin in Campbellton, N.B., becomes the second high school in the province to shut down for the year.

Another New Brunswick high school is being closed for the rest of the academic year due to structural problems.

Radio-Canada has learned that staff at cole Polyvalente Roland-Ppin in Campbellton were informed of the decision at noonWednesday and a meeting was scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to inform parents.

The school has been closed since Tuesday. Parents were told it was to allow for further construction. Wednesday District 5 officials said the issue was far more serious.

Roland-Ppin houses 500 students in Grades 9 through 12. It was built in the 1970s.

Last week, school district officials in Moncton announced that Moncton High School would have to close for the remainder of the school year as well, in order to conduct a thorough evaluation and carry out remedial work. There have been concerns at the 75-year-old building about mould and structural corrosion.
