Accomplice of serial killer Legere granted full parole

Todd Matchett, an accomplice of Miramichi serial killer Allan Legere, was granted full parole during a National Parole Board hearing in British Columbia.

Matchett was imprisoned for second-degree murder after pleading guilty to murdering Miramichi-area shopkeeper John Glendenning in 1986 and brutally beating his wife, Mary. Scott Curtis and Legere were also convicted.

The parole board, in granting39-year-old Matchett his releaselast week, saidhe was a "model parolee."Since beginning day parole in 2006 andcompleting a community violent offender relapse prevention program, his risk for general offending is considered low.

He has spent the last year and a half in Vancouver, where he's a carpentryapprentice.

Matchett was in his late teens when the three broke in to the home of an elderly Miramichi couple.

Glendenning, 66, was beatenand strangled to death, and his 61-year-old wife was severely beaten and sexually assaulted during a robbery.

As a condition of his full release, Matchett can have no contact with the victim or her family.

Legere and Curtis are still in prison.
