Tina Adams, survivor of drunk driving accident, has a message for young people

The woman who was struck by an alleged drunk driver in Hudson, Que.,last June is using her story as a warning to other young people.

With many CEGEP students getting ready for next week'sspring break, Tina Adams spoke at John Abbott College about the impact drunk driving can have on a person's life.

She also posted aYouTubevideo of her story.

She wasonly five houses away from her home when she was hit. Adams has since had to shelve her dreams of becoming a police officer.

Future uncertain

She still doesn'twhether she will be able to ever return to the police technology program at John Abbott.

"I tried to get into the program for two years. It was my dream to become a police officer," Adams said.

"I found where I belonged. Then this accident happened and it changed my life. Doctors are telling me that I should start looking for a different career."

Adams has had 15 operations to date and could be waiting years before getting the hip replacement she needs to continue her progress. She currently uses crutches to walk.

The driver of the car, Jordan Taylor, is facing 10 charges including criminal negligence and impaired driving. A hearing in his case is scheduled to take place at the Valleyfield courthouse on Friday, Feb. 26 where he is expected to enter his plea.

"I'm not sure if I'll be there," Adams said of the hearing. "It's not worth it really."
