Suanne Stein Day resigns as chair of LBP School Board

Suanne Stein Day, the chair of the Lester B Pearson School Board, has resigned.

The board, which oversees English schoolsin western Montreal to the Ontario border, issued a statement Tuesday.

Stein Day has been on a personal leave of absence for the last seven months.

When Stein Day went onleave in April, she told CBCitwas unrelated to her being found guilty of breaching the board's code of ethics.

She told CBCNews at the time she was taking the leavefor personal reasons and that it followed the urging to do so from family members "and others not related to the board."

In a news release sent Tuesday, the school board said Day sent ina letter of resignation indicating "the circumstances have not changed sufficiently enough for her to foresee a return."

Day was elected as chair of the board's council of commissioners in 2011 after Marcus Tabachnick'sdeparture. She was re-elected chair of the boardin November 2014.

"I would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Suanne for her many years of dedicated service," said the the board's acting chair, Noel Burke.

"We understand and support her decision to step down at this time and wish herself and her family the very best for the future."

Burke said the council would be "moving forward quickly to ensure stability within the organization" and that a special meeting will be held within the next month.
