Man dies at the end of Montreal marathon

Police say the man, in his 30s, received medicial attention at the end of the race, but died in hospital.

One man is dead after suffering a heart attack at the 2011 Montreal marathon Sunday.

The man, described as being in his 30s, died in hospital after receiving first aid at the end of the race, according to Montreal police.

Bernard Arsenault, marathon CEO, said the heat and humidity had made conditions difficult for participants.

Kenyan runner Lunka Kipkemoi Chelimo won the marathon, setting a new course record.

Chelimo completed the 42-kilometre race in two hours and 13 minutes.

On the womens side, Ethiopian Serkalem Abrah had the fastest time, finishing in two hours and 33 minutes.

More than 24,000 runners participated in the 21st annual event, another record for the marathon.
