Quebec towns clean up after floods

Dozens of people living in Quebec's Montrgie area, south of Montreal, are cleaning up after heavy rains and winds caused the Richelieu River to overflow on Saturday.

Close to 50 homes had flooded basements on Saturday, but many were able to pump out the water. Seven remained flooded on Sunday.

Near one of the hardest hit towns, Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois, several small roads were still underwater on Monday, according to CBC reporter Kristin Falcao.

Officials did not order the evacuation of any homes.

Residents saw waves more than 60 centimetres high push the water over the riverbank, due to winds blowing from the south.

Rain is in the forecast for the next few days, and officials said several towns along the Richelieu River, Lake Champlain, the Acadie River and Lac St. Pierre will remain under flood watch.

Other areas west and north of Montreal are also at risk of flooding, including communities near the Mille-les River, Lake of Two Mountains and Rivire des Prairies.
