STM bus fire blamed on faulty alternator

Montreal's transit corporationsays a faulty alternator was to blame for a fire that gutted a citybus on theVilleMarie expresswaylast month.

The STM says Transport Canada and NovaBus took part in the investigationas well as an independent expert.

As a precaution.the STM says it's inspecting all of the alternators on the type of bus that caught fire.

Butthe corporation says the problem is not linked to a recallissued last year.

The bus, a 2010 model, was completely destroyed in the fire.

One woman who was on the bus said passengers had to climb out a window because the driver had pulled over on the right side of the highway, which was up against the railing.
