Longtime LiberalBernardPatrysaw nearly 20 years of domination at the polls on election day dissolve at the hands of a virtual unknown: NDP candidateLysane Blanchette-Lamothe.

Patryrepresented the riding from1993 to 2011, burying hischallengers inelection after election. The winning candidate in six consecutive elections, he took in more than50 per cent of the vote in all but one in 2008, when was re-elected witha mere 47 per cent of ballots cast.

Patryserved in several high-profile and cabinet positions during his tenure.But that all came to an end in 2011, when he lost his seat by 1,860 votes.

Blanchette-Lamothe was appointedopposition critic for seniors and later critic forcitizenship and immigration in her first term in office.

This time around, the Liberals are runningentrepreneurFrank Baylis, the president of a medical technology company who also established his own filmproduction house. The Conservative party, whichcame in not far behind the Liberals in 2011, nominatedlawyer and businesswomanValrie Assoulineas itscandidate in the riding.
