SQ divers find body of 11-year-old French tourist after snowmobile goes through ice

An underwater search for the boy's 55-year-old mother has been suspended. The snowmobile the French tourists were riding on went through the ice into the Loup River in the Mastigouche wildlife reserve in the Mauricie region Sunday.

Provincial police divers have found the body of a boy who was riding on asnowmobile that went through the ice Sunday afternoon in Quebec'sMauricie region.

The 11-year-old boy's mother, 55, is still missing.

The pair, tourists from France, were snowmobiling in the Mastigouche wildlife reserve, nearSaint-Alxis-des-Monts, when the machine went through the ice into the Loup River.

The underwater search for the missing woman has been suspended, however, a provincial police helicopter may fly over the areaTuesday, if weather conditions allow.

Police said the pair wastravelling withpeople on two other snowmobiles, including a guide who contacted emergency services at around 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Another fatality in Portneuf

In a separate snowmobiling accident on Saturday, a49-year-old man was killedand a woman was leftin critical condition after the snowmobilistswent off a trail near Rivire--Pierre, in Portneuf county, northwest of Quebec City.
