Montreal expects snow removal from back-to-back storms will take until Friday

Environment Canada's snowfall warning, issued early Mondaymorning, has now ended. This latest dump has left Montrealerswith 15 more centimetres of snow to deal with, even as they're still digging out from last week's snowstorm.

People travelling by in their own vehicles today will find it slow going, and commuters who usepublic transitshould also expect delays.

Environment Canada meteorologist Simon Legault said light and powdery snowcould cause reduced visibility, if it gets caught in the wind.

"Having that 40 centimetres of snow, and add to that 10 to 15 centimetresMonday, it's unusual but not a unique event," he said.

The agency predicts another 10 centimetresof snow willfallon Thursday.

City of Montreal spokesperson Philippe Sabourin said that city workers are plowingthe new snow, even while last week's dump is being loaded onto trucks. That's slowing down the pace of clearing the streets, he said.

He said the snow removal operation is still expected to be completed by Friday,but a secondmight be needed, depending on how much snow falls Thursday.
