5 men in custody in connection with $10M silver heist

Montreal police searched locations in Saint-Laurent and Pointe-Claire yesterday and arrested five men, all between the ages of 35 and 53 years old, in connection with last week's brazen container theft.

Five people have now been arrested in connection with a multi-million dollar silver heist at the Port of Montreal.

Montreal police searched a dozen locations in Saint-Laurent and Pointe-Claire yesterday and arrested the men, who are all between the ages of 35 and 53.

They are expected to face charges of theft over $5,000 and conspiracy.

Police were still on scene in an industrial area of Pointe-Claire this morning.

The heist took place lastWednesday, when atruckstolenfrom Montreal's west end drove off with a shipping containerholding up to $10 million in silver from the port.

Thecontainer lifted from the port was foundempty Saturday on a residential street inRepentigny.

Police said some of the stolen silver had been recovered.
