Residents pack info session on new superhospital

About 200 people showed up at an information session on the construction of the MUHC superhospital Tuesday night, organized by The McGill University Health Centre and the city of Montreal.

The $1.3 billion facility, financed by a public-private partnership, is expected to open its doors in 2014.

Organizers summarized plans for roadwork in the area, including construction set to begin in the next couple of weeks on a sewer system under Decarie boulevard, between St-Jacques and De Maisonneuve streets.

The hospital is being built on thesite of the former Glen rail yards.

The meeting focused on the impact construction over the next four years will have on traffic in the area.

Residents are concerned about noise and pollution during construction, and organizers told the crowd that efforts would be made to minimize the inconvenience for people who live and work in the area.

Decarie boulevard will continue to have traffic flowing in both directions and a committee will be set up in October for residents to voice their concerns, officials said.

Information kiosks were also set up Tuesday on cancer care, paediatric traumatology and other services that will be offered at the new English superhospital.
