Old Montreal fire rips through three buildings

A fire in Old Montreal early Friday morning forced dozens of people from their homes and left at least one building near collapse.

More than 100 firefighters were needed to get the Friday morning blaze under control

A fire in Old Montreal early Friday morning forced dozens of people from their homes and left at least one building near collapse.

Firefighters treated one person for smoke inhalation, but otherwise there were no injuries.

The fire broke out in an empty building onSoeursGrises Street, near the Wellington intersection.

More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene, andevacuated several residences in the area.

In all, three unused buildings were badly damaged by the fire.

Officials were concerned about the structural integrity of some buildings, and dispatched amechanical shovel to dismantle them.
