The significant parking fees at some Montreal health care facilities are creating extrastress for patients and their families, according to the city's executive committee member responsible for infrastructure.

A motion calling for reducedparking rates at health care centres is expected to be presented at Montreal City Hall next week.

It comes on the heels of the opening of theMcGillUniversity Health Centre's newsuperhospital.

The hospital has been upandrunning for three days, and patients are already complaining about the cost of parking.

It costs $15 to park for one hour. But if you stay more than 91 minutes, you have to pay the full 24 hour rate of $25.

Lionel Perez, Montreal's executive committee member responsible for infrastructure and a city councillor for the Darlingtondistrict of Cte-des-NeigesNotre-Dame-de-Grce, is behind the motion.

He's calling on the Quebec government to review its policy on parking rates at public health care institutions.

His motion calls the rates "prohibitive."
