Montrealers walk for ovarian cancer research

The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is beingheld today in Montreal.

The annual eventtakes place every Septemberin 40 communities across Canada, to increase awareness andraise funds for the fight against ovarian cancer.

Elisabeth Baugh, CEO of Ovarian Cancer Canada, said the events are an opportunity forwomen, families and friends who have been affected by thedisease to "come together for support and inspiration."

The money raised will go toward supporting women living with the disease, promotingawareness programsand funding research for early detection and improved treatments.

Since 2002, the march has raised over $21 million for Ovarian Cancer Canada.

In 2015, theCanadian Cancer Societyestimatedthateachyear 2,800 Canadian women arediagnosed with the disease, and 1,750 women die from it.

The Montrealarea walkwill begin in Angrignon Park at 10 a.m., rain or shine.

Registration and coffee start as early as 8:30 a.m.

Participants can either opt for a 2.5-kilometre or five-kilometre walk. Dogs on leashes are welcome.
