The main symptoms of this highly contagious disease are severe fever, followed by redness on the body.

Babies under one year of age, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women who are not adequately vaccinated are most at risk of complications.

Over the last couple months,Montreal public health has been working with severalclinics and hospitals to prevent a possible measles outbreak.

People are being told to call Info-Santby dialling 811 with health concerns, and, if necessary, they will be referred to the nearest place where they can go for evaluation and treatment.

The measles vaccine is the most effective way to avoid contracting measles, officials say, but anti-vaccination movements have contributed to outbreaks of the disease.
